Dear Family and Friends:
Emma’s big day is fast approaching. I will leave for Texas on September 11th and will hopefully be staying in the Ronald McDonald House. Emma is scheduled to arrive by C-Section on October 4th at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. We do not have a scheduled time yet, but will let everyone know as soon as we know.
On the day that Emma arrives, things will be a little busy! We are praying that Emma does great post delivery so that we can spend a few moments with her before she is whisked away to Children’s Hospital. There will be a team of doctors and nurses that will work to stabilize Emma to move to Children’s and then do what is necessary to ensure that her heart is as ready as possible for the first surgery. Please understand that these first few moments and hours will be a very stressful and emotional time for Scott and I. More than likely, I will not get to spend a lot of time with Emma, and Scott will be leaving my side to go with Emma to Children’s. While we understand that everyone will want to see her and ask about her current condition and progress, please know that our thoughts and energy will be in ensuring that she is well taken care of, so we will let you know information when we feel that it is a good time.
Scott will go over to Children’s by himself. If he feels like he needs or wants company he will let you know. Otherwise, please respect his wishes and understand that there is no “manual” telling us how to handle this situation and that we are trying to do the best we can. The waiting room to the CICU (Cardiac Intensive Care Unit) does not hold very many people, so we ask that either you wait in the Labor and Delivery Waiting Room at Parkland, or the big lounge area on the Cardiac floor at Children’s.
I do not know how all of this will effect me emotionally, therefore, I have asked my dad to be my buffer. If at any time I do not feel up to company he will ask you nicely to please let me have some alone time. I know that it will not be easy to have Emma taken from me and moved to another hospital (possibly enduring a procedure) and I will not be able to be there.
We will have a bag of snack foods and some bottles of water in the waiting room. Trust us, you in some way are paying for it…lol J . Please feel free to eat up. There is a cafeteria in Children’s if you get too hungry that day.
We want you all to know that we appreciate your willingness to be there that day and support us. It gives Scott and I such comfort to know that we have such caring, loving, and supportive family and friends to surround Emma and us with love and prayers. Scott and I are not planning on being on the phone all the time. We will have a blog set up to track Emma’s progress. Please go to: www.emmajanae.blogspot.com to see how she is doing. Also, while we hope you can make it for Emma’s big arrival, if you in any way are not feeling well please stay home. While we want you there, if Emma, Scott, or I catch any illness it would be detrimental to Emma’s progress.
